AFRO HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR
THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE AFRO HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR CATEGORY IS: 5.00PM FRIDAY JUNE 27TH, 2008.

WHO CAN ENTER?
All qualified hairdressers who work in the UK in a commercial environment and have done so for a minimum of three years excluding training may enter this category.
Entrants must have a regular client column. (A regular client column is working in a salon for a minimum of one day per week). This may be checked.
HOW TO ENTER
Submit four photographs created by you during the past 12 months.
From 30th June 2007 – 27th June 2008.
Entries should be supplied with a ‘Before’ picture of each model taken on the day of the shoot prior to any hair work, make up or styling. The organisers and judges reserve the right to question any photographs, which appear to be computer enhanced.
The overall size of the photograph must be 10” deep x 8” wide (portrait) un-mounted.  The size includes borders.
Should you go through to the second round, you will need to supply a further four photographs, with before shots. These will create a collection of eight photographs.
Photographs can be supplied on photographic paper purchased through a photographer or photographic outlet.
THE PHOTOGRAPHIC SHOOT
The work created must be on Afro Hair.
The use of wigs, extensions, hairpieces or strands is permitted. Please bear in mind that should you get through to the second round you will be asked to supply a further four photographs. Please ensure that you have only used wigs, extensions, hairpieces or strands in no more than two photographs in the collection of eight. This will be checked.
No more than two faces may appear in any one photograph.
Photographs may be black & white or colour and the hair should be commercial, wearable and reflect current trends.
Professional photographers and make-up artists may be used.
Images do not have to be head and shoulders, but they do need to focus on the hair, especially in terms of lighting and pose.
Before Submission of Photographs
Label the back of each photograph with the entrants name, salon name and salon address and the category entered.
If any of the above rules are not followed, your entry may be returned.

ARTISTIC TEAM OF THE YEAR
THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE ARTISTIC TEAM OF THE YEAR CATEGORY IS: 5.00PM FRIDAY JUNE 27TH, 2008.

WHO CAN ENTER?
A minimum of three people constitutes a team.
Each member of the team must be a qualified hairdresser and all must have worked together for the same salon, salon chain or recognised hairdressing body during the past 12 months from 30th June 2007 to 27th June 2008.
HOW TO ENTER
Submit four photographs created by the team during the past 12 months.
From 30th June 2007 – 27th June 2008.

Entries should be supplied with a ‘Before’ picture of each model taken on the day of the shoot prior to any hair work makeup or styling. The organisers reserve the right to question any photographs, which appear to be computer enhanced.

The overall size of the photograph must be 10” deep x 8” wide (portrait) un-mounted. The size includes borders.
Should you go through to the second round, you will need to supply a further four photographs, with before shots. These will create a collection of eight photographs.
Photographs can be supplied on photographic paper purchased through a photographer or photographic outlet.
The team must also complete a standard questionnaire on an official form, which can be obtained by calling Dan Eversfield on Tel 020-8652-8845 or email daniel.eversfield@rbi.co.uk.
Attachments to this are NOT allowed. The name of the salon/any member of the salon or team must not appear anywhere in the information supplied.
The questionnaire must be completed in full and without using continuation sheets.
THE PHOTOGRAPHIC SHOOT
The use of wigs, extensions, hairpieces or strands is permitted. Please bear in mind that should you get through to the second round you will be asked to supply a further four photographs. Please ensure that you have only used wigs, extensions, hairpieces or strands in no more than two photographs in the collection of eight. This will be checked.

Photographs may be black and white or colour and the hair should be commercial, wearable and reflect current trends.
Professional photographers, make-up artists and sylists may be used.

AVANT GARDE HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR
THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE AVANT GARDE HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR CATEGORY IS: 5.00PM FRIDAY JUNE 27TH, 2008.

WHO CAN ENTER?
All qualified hairdressers who work in the UK in a commercial environment and have done so for a minimum of three years excluding training may enter this category.
Entrants must have a regular client column. (A regular client column is working in a salon for a minimum of one day per week). This may be checked.
HOW TO ENTER
Submit four photographs created by you during the past 12 months.
From 30th June 2007 – 27th June 2008.

Entries should be supplied with Polaroids or RAW files of each shot.
The organisers and judges reserve the right to question any photographs, which appear to be computer enhanced, therefore supplying Polaroids or RAW files is essential to the entry. If these are not supplied it could result in disqualification.

The overall size of the photograph must be 10” deep x 8” wide (portrait) un-mounted. The size includes borders.
Should you go through to the second round, you will need to supply a further four photographs, with Polaroids or RAW files. These will create a collection of eight photographs.
Photographs can be supplied on photographic paper purchased through a photographer or photographic outlet.
THE PHOTOGRAPHIC SHOOT
The use of wigs, extensions, hairpieces or strands is permitted.
No more than two faces may appear in any one photograph.
Photographs should demonstrate progressive styling with the emphasis on trend setting and innovation.
Photographs may be black & white or colour.
Professional photographers, make-up artists and sylists may be used.
Images do not have to be head and shoulders, but they do need to focus on the hair, especially in terms of lighting and pose.

Entrants to Newcomer of the Year must be qualified hairdressers who are salon based in the UK and are 25 years of age or under by 27th June 2008.
Entrants to this category may not enter any other category.
Entrants must have a regular client column. (A regular client column is working in a salon for a minimum of one day per week). This may be checked.
HOW TO ENTER
Submit four photographs created by you during the past 12 months.
From 30th June 2007 – 27th June 2008.

SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL BRITISH COLOUR TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR
THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL BRITISH COLOUR TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR CATEGORY IS: 5.00PM FRIDAY JUNE 27TH, 2008.

WHO CAN ENTER?
All qualified hairdressers who work in the UK in a commercial environment and have done so for a minimum of three years excluding training may enter this category.
Entrants must have a regular client column. (A regular client column is working in a salon for a minimum of one day per week). This may be checked.
Only Schwarzkopf Professional Colour can be used in this category.
The use of wigs, hairpieces, extensions or strands is strictly forbidden.
ENTRANTS MUST SUPPLY
Four 10” x 8” (portrait) full colour photographs, of four different model’s hair before colouring.
Four 10” x 8” (portrait) full colour photographs of the same model’s hair after colouring.
For each look, a technical analysis of the model’s hair must be submitted outlining: texture, porosity, pre-colour applications and other relevant information which should include:
--
A breakdown of the colour products/shades used and the reasons why they were appropriate for the hair type and result.
--
An insight into shade selection and the reasons for their usage. eg: eye colour, skin tone, texture enhancement.
--
A comprehensive outline of the techniques used including terms such as foils, mesh, slicing, colour merging, bleeding panels, under/over development, pre-lightening, pastel shading and shade variation.
--
A storyline of the concept behind the finished result and how the colour and technique enhanced the look.
The before and after photographs, together with the detailed explanations for each shot should be supplied in an A4 binder. (Please do not glue your photographs into the folder as they will need to be removed for judging).
Photographs can be supplied on photographic paper purchased through a photographer or photographic outlet.

BRITISH HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR
THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE BRITISH HAIRDRESSER OF THE YEAR CATEGORY IS: 5.00PM FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 12TH, 2008.

This category is by nomination only. If nominated you will be informed by the end of June 2008 and you will asked to submit a portfolio of eight photographs and a completed CV.

Entries should be supplied with a ‘Before’ picture of each model taken on the day of the shoot prior to any hair work makeup or styling. The organisers reserve the right to question any photographs, which appear to be computer enhanced.

A standard CV form will be supplied. No attachments are allowed.
The CV should include international trade shows (education) with audience figures.
An ambassadorial mission statement of no more than 200 words.
TV Coverage – Covering what, where, channel etc.
Press coverage covering UK trade, UK consumer, overseas trade, overseas consumer titles.
A press book must also be supplied with the CV which can be checked to ensure claims made are true. It must contain all coverage as stated in the CV.
The CV must not contain any reference which could identify the entrant.
The portfolio of work submitted for British Hairdresser of the Year must be exclusive and must not have been seen by the media or other hairdressers prior to Tuesday October 7th 2007.
The portfolio of work must not be published prior to Tuesday November 25th 2008.
